Prof. Kenneth Kahn from the Department of Marketing & Logistics in the UT College of Business Administration will address the class on Tuesday, Jan 30. A two-paragraph summary on segmentation strategies and their associated use of data mining is due at the beginning of class on Thursday, Feb. 1.

Prof. Shih-Lung Shaw from the Department of Geography, UTK will be a guest lecturer on the topic of Spatio-Temporal Clustering on Tuesday, Feb. 13. All students are required to write one paragraph summarizing the important issues regarding this context of clustering. This summary is due at the beginning of class on Thursday, Feb 15.

Summer 2007 internship at NASA Ames Research Center (Moffett Field, CA) available as part of research grant awarded to M.W. Berry (instructor) by NASA (inquire outside of class).

Midterm date: Tuesday, March 6

Brandon Mullins will give a 30-minute presentation (last part of lecture) on Tuesday, March 20 regarding the construction of a new social networking webspace; immediate internships will be available with his firm.

Dian I. Martin (UTK/CS MS '97) will lecture on the topic of "Latent Semantic Analysis" on Thursday, March 22; Lecture Slides (PDF)

The Final Exam (Task 4 Presentation) period is 10:15am to 12:15pm, Tuesday, May 8.

Mr. David Clothier and Mr. Jeff Huckaby (Pilot Travel Centers, Inc.) and Prof. Kenneth Kahn (Dept. of Marketing & Logistics) will be our special guests on Thursday, April 19. Task 3 groups will be presenting their association rules work with the PTC register data on that day (starting at 9:00am).

Barbara Beckerman, MBA (Program Manager, Biomedical Engineering - ORNL) will give a lecture entitled "Emerging Opportunities for Knowledge Discovery in Biomedical Problem-Solving: Real World Applications" on Thurs., April 12 at 6:00pm in Pasqua (Nuc. Eng.) Room 303.
