A single IC containing a microcontroller and programmable logic
can implement configurable systems.
Triscend offers the the E5, a family of five
devices based on the 8-bit 8051 with varying amounts of on-chip
programmable logic, RAM and I/Os. The E5 was used by iP
Solutions Corp. to implement an irrigation pump monitoring system
which can be accessed through the internet. The development of
additional applications are facilitated by a kit containing both

Xess Corp. has combined a Triscend configurable system device
with 128 KBytes of flash memory as well as 128 KBytes of SRAM to
produce a printed circuits board which sells for $170. For
