TITLE: HARDWARE/SOFTWARE CO-DESIGN COURSE
Prof. Bob Klenke of the Virginia Commonwealth University won the
best paper award for an undergraduate course at the
Microelectronic Systems Education Conference .
He described a senior capstone
design course that he teaches in computer engineering in which
the students combine a microcontroller and a FPGA to activate a
six-legged robot. The students must configure the hardware and
software to enable the robot to complete specified tasks without
any outside assistance. They must interface with analog sensors
and generate servo positioning pulses to move the robot
appropriately. His presentation slides are on the conference
website.
