TITLE: TOOL FOR PLATFORM-BASED SYSTEM-ON-CHIP DESIGN

Mentor Graphics has developed "Platform Express" to facilitate
platform-based system-on-chip (SoC) design. The tool enables
users to capture and verify a variety of platform design kits
that are now being offered by ASIC and FPGA developers which
include processors, memory, buses and perhipherals. Additional
third-party virtual components or intellectual property blocks
can be added using a drag-and-drop graphical editor.
Verification suites including diagnostics, test benches and
simulator command scripts are generated automatically.

Platform Express 1.1 has been released and is now available.
Initially, existing Mentor customers can get this through their
Supportnet account (there is a login button on the web page), and
new/prospective customers should contact their local Mentor
Graphics office. A more general download facility for everybody
to use should appear on the web page sometime in August. It is
anticipated that in the future freely distributable sample
libraries of components will accompany the tool so most users who
do not have links or access to the libraries being created by the
semiconductor vendors will be able to build designs with Platform
Express.
