TITLE: High Performance Floating-Point Processor

A single-chip processor designed by ClearSpeed and manufactured
by IBM can perform 50 billion floating-point operations per
second while consuming less than 6 watts. The CSX600 has 96
processing elements (PEs) and 128 Kbytes of on-chip static RAM.
Each PE has an integer multiply-accumulator, dual 64-bit
floating-point units and 6 Kbytes of local memory. Multiples of
these processors have been cascaded together by WorldScape to
execute SIMD (single instruction multiple data) applications
including image and signal processing as well as compression and
decompression. The massively parallel computer is the current
world record holder of a radar processing benchmark involving
the execution of eight 1024-point, complex, floating-point FFTs
in parallel.
