TITLE: Top 500 Supercomputers

A list of the top performing supercomputers is available at:

    Top 500

Since 1993, the list has been updated twice a year to indicate
the best performance on the Linpack benchmark. The current
number one machine which has achieved 135.3 trillion floating-
point operations per second is the Blue Gene/L being built by IBM
for the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in California.
The present version is used for simulating the performance and
safety of nuclear weapons and is about half its eventual size of
131,072 processors which should be operational this summer. Ten
of the top 500 machines are located at Livermore. Except for one
machine which uses Microsoft Windows, all of the top 500 machines
employ either the Linux or Unix operating system.
