TITLE: Text on Rapid Prototyping Using Altera FPGAs

A textbook on rapid prototyping using Altera FPGAs has been
written by J. Hamblen, T. Hall and M. Furman and is entitled
"Rapid Prototyping of Digital Systems (Quartus-II Edition)". The
book, ISBN 0-387-27728-5, is available from Springer

It provides challenging laboratory exercises for undergraduate
digital logic and computer design courses using FPGAs and CAD
tools for simulation and hardware implementation. This edition
uses Altera's Quartus-II CAD tool and includes laboratory
projects for Altera's UP-2 and the new UP-3 FPGA board. The
projects have also been ported to Altera's new DE-2 board.
Student laboratory projects provided on the book's CD-ROM include
video graphics and text, mouse and keyboard input, and three
computer designs. VHDL-based synthesis is presented along with
System-on-a-Programmable Chip (SOPC) design examples using
Altera's NIOS-II Processor and C software development tools.

Many of these examples are freely available on-line:
UP-3 Examples and DE-2 Examples

Altera FPGA boards are available to students for under $300 and to
commercial customers for under $500. Descriptions of the UP-3 and
DE-2 may be found at: Altera Boards
