Please check out several new features of the CS web site.

At the top level you will again this year see the notice of our elections
featured. The ballots are in the mail, and the candidates' statements,
bios, and photos are on the web in a new format which we hope will be
easier for members to use. The responses of the IEEE president-elect
candidates to questions from the CS leadership are also there.

The on-line catalog is up and running. It's use to date has been low volume,
but is steadily increasing each week. New just this week is the "shopping cart"
feature which makes it much easier to use. When you browse this on-line bookstore
you will have a chance to peruse the table of contents of a book, and for
many you can read the preface/forward or even a sample chapter.
You can check it out even if you don't buy anything.

Congratulations to Chris Zach, Steve Wilcox, and Tom Fink for their
excellent efforts in making this on-line catalog a real service for our
members and customers.

We have also (finally) implemented 1995 President Ron Hoelzeman's request
to put up staff photos and contact information. Click on the "Volunteer
and Staff Contacts" button, and then the link for staff organization. By
following the organization charts there you can now see the person who is
on the other end of the phone line with you. (A few staff asked that
their photos not be posted and we of course respected their wishes.) The
quality of the photos is somewhat uneven, but we will be improving that.

In order to appreciate just how rich our web site has become, try following
all of the paths (may require more than one sitting) from our home page.

There's a wonderful history resource available -- just click
the "50 Years of Service" button.

Our conferences section has calendar and call sections,
links to home pages for many conferences, and TOC and
      abstracts for most proceedings.

Several of our periodicals have excellent supplementary
materials on their pages under the "Publications" button,
delivering technical content not possible in a paper
publication as well as "teaser" materials to encourage
      subscribers, instructions to authors, etc.

      The whole site is searchable.

Our web site grows richer literally every day through the effort of many
volunteers and staff. We have received several commendations for its
content and form (such as being one of only sixteen sites included in the
"Best Engineering Web Sites" identified by EE TIMES), but we are
continuing to try to improve it.

Our new web site administrator (first day on the job today, on Steve
Wilcox' staff) is Scott Smith. Please give us your feedback and
suggestions. You may address your comments via email to Scott at
s.smith@computer.org OR webmaster@computer.org, or to Bob care at
b.care@computer.org, or to me, or any of the other volunteers and staff
involved in our overal epub effort. Your suggestions can help us make
the web site an even better resource for our members.

A CDROM is now available containing nearly 12,000 pages of
the magazines and transactions published in 1995 by the IEEE
Computer Society. It costs less than $100.
