Field Programmable Analogue and Mixed-Signal Devices

Pilkington Micro-electronics has licensed Motorola to offer a new
development in field programmable devices: the combination of
the world's first general purpose Field Programmable Analogue Ar-
ray (FPAA) with its existing digital Field Programmable Gate
Array (FPGA) to implement a Field Programmable Mixed-Signal Array
(FPMA).

The FPAA cell can readily be configured to implement a wide range
of primitive functions including:

   * operational amplifier
   * comparator
   * gain stage
   * adder/subtractor
   * integrator/differentiator
   * precision rectifier
   * 1st order filter stage
   * sample & hold

Every cell resource is programmable. Some are dynamically pro-
grammable - this does not involve reconfiguration, but means that
their programming can respond to analogue circuit conditions or
digital control signals whilst the circuit is operating.
