TITLE: INTERNET-BASED DESIGN FOR ASICS
(Adapted from www.synopsys.com)
Synopsys and Avant! have joined together to provide internet-
based design via DesignSphere Access. The alliance combines
electronic design automation tools with extensive computing
resources, network capability and security services accessible
via the Internet. This new service is intended to help companies
overcome the expense and time-consuming effort of establishing
and maintaining a state-of-the-art, comprehensive IC design
environment. Using this service allows these companies to focus
on their own unique intellectual property (IP) while avoiding
expensive infrastructure development.
Fabrication of designs is facilitated by an agreement with
semiconductor manufacturer Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing
Company (TSMC). TSMC is linking its CyberShuttle (formerly
multi-project wafer) service to enable fast, low-cost silicon
prototyping. By placing multiple designs on a single wafer,
complex IP cores can be validated. CMOS processes using 0.18-
micron and 0.15-micron are available. In 2000, TSMC expects to
have the capacity for nearly 3.4 million 8-inch equivalent
wafers.
DesignSphere Access ensures data safety and integrity with a
strong system of firewalls, physical access security, customer-
dedicated hardware configurations, and log-in and password
restrictions. The secure architecture meets the highest level of
Internet security available today. Security is regularly audited
and monitored by independent third-party specialists. Customer
data is stored in RAID disk arrays that are backed up daily and
stored off-site from the data center. Network and system
operation is monitored 24 hours a day, seven days per week. More
information about DesignSphere Access can be found at
WWW.
