TITLE: PRESENTATIONS OF ELECTRONIC DESIGN AUTOMATION

Over 16,000 people participated in the 2000 Design Automation Conference (DAC)
that was held in Los Angeles in June.
Presentations made by the keynote speakers and panelists
are now available on the web at no charge at:

DAC-2000.

Generally, each talk is available as a proceedings paper (Adobe pdf)
with slides (Microsoft Powerpoint) and a video recording (Windows Media).

Some of the highlights include
"First-Time-Right Silicon But to the Right Specification" by
Theo Claasen of Philips Semiconductors and
"Challenges in the Post-PC Era" by
Hugo De Man of IMEC and Katholieke University.

Creating, integrating and supporting intellectual property blocks
in the design of embedded systems was the topic of the plenary panel chaired
by Richard Newton of U. C. Berkeley. CEOs from Mentor Graphics, Broadcom,
Rambus, ARM and Infineon discussed their approaches.

The importance of incorporating accurate physical timing in a design
was stressed by a panel chaired by Kurt Keutzer of U.C. Berkeley.
Representatives of several EDA companies discussed a variety of approaches
to achieve timing closure with a minimum (ideally one) iteration of the
design cycles. The approaches trade-off time-to-market versus quality
of results. Synopsys and Avant! purport an equal tradeoff between these
goals while Aristo and Magma tools emphasize productivity. See Session 10.

A comprehensive list of over 250 exhibitors at DAC is available at:

DAC Exhibitors .

The list can be searched automatically based on product category
or company name and includes a description of the product line
along with contact and web addresses.

The next DAC will be held in Las Vegas during June 18-22, 2001.
