TITLE: SYSTEM-ON-CHIP MASTERS PROGRAM AT KTH STOCKHOLM

Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) announces our unique
international M.Sc. program with focus on system-on-chip design
issues with connection to the next generation personal
electronics. We look forward intrested students, visiting
faculty at all levels and industrial partners intrested in
recruiting engineers with SOC comeptence. Our strategic location
in Kista Sciecne Park, which is rated by business and prfessional
magazines as the leading R&D center in world for the wireless
revolution. For more details visit our web site: SOC WWW.

Master Program for International Students

 Socware for Mobile Internet

This Master degree program for internationally oriented students
will prepare you to meet the global career challenges in area of
integrating wireless and wired communication electronics with
help of the next revolution in microelectronics, System-on-Chip
integration, or Socware. This program provides the knowledge and
skills needed for such integration work and the program bridges
the computer engineering and microelectronics curricula. The
program enhances student capabilities to work in global project
teams, provides solid foundation for life-long learning and
personal development based on the pedagogic model used. Many of
the courses are based on the world-class research at Royal
Institute of Technology.

 Objectives

Our life and our future is changing due to rapid growth of the
internet, communication technologies and pervasive and ubiquitous
computing, which have enabled the availability and invisibility
of the complex electronics. The key driving force for this
development during this decade will be System-on-Chip
technologies and Socware engineering, where the complex
functionality is integrated towards ultra large-scale single chip
solutions. This on-going transition from traditional Application
Specific Integrated Circuits (ASIC) has lead to new challenges
and paradigm shifts in system realization, design methods and
automation, in system and circuit architectures, and in circuit
techniques in order to harvest the potential benefits of the deep
submicron CMOS technologies. This new Master study program will
address the key strategic concepts and issues in the near future
system integration on silicon. To achieve the overall objectives
of preparing students for the global career market, we offer
truly international environment for studies, dynamic learning
environment, state-of-the-art resources, and close integration to
world leading research at Royal Institute of Technology.

Structure

The program consists of 60 Swedish credit units, equal to 90
ECTS, of studies and is approximately 18 months long. The program
is structured to 40 credit units (60 ECTS) of course work and
credit unit (30 ECTS) Master thesis work, typically done in
industry, or in close association to our research work.

Professional Qualifications

The student gains comprehensive and up to date theoretical and
practical qualifications to all aspects of System-on-Chip design,
from the design process, SW/HW integration, SoC architectures and
reusability, deep submicron impact at circuit and system level,
and related design methods and tools. The program emphasizes the
global aspect of the development and design for future leading
edge electronic systems. Special emphasis is devoted, in
addition of the fundamental basis, on practical skills, global
teamwork abilities, and efficient research and communication
skills.

Learning Strategies and Teaching Methods

The learning environment is characterized by international and
highly competent faculty and fellow students, and by the modern
approach to learn with high degree of responsibility and
involvement from the student part. In addition, the close
proximity to the world leading industries in wireless application
areas and the strong research connection of the program
guarantees the relevance and proper framework for quality
studies. The curriculum is based on interdisciplinary approach,
competence profiling via elective courses based on the student's
interests, and mixture of theory and practice in each course. The
gained knowledge is transformed to competence via project
directed work methods and coordinated thesis project.

Eligibility

B.Sc. or M.Sc. degree or at least 3 year equivalent university
level studies in the area. Good command of English.

Applications

Applications for the degree program starting September 01 need to
be at KTH by Mars 15th, 01. Limited number of scholarships based
on academic excellence is available. Applications forms are
available at the web site.
