TITLE: HIGH-PERFORMANCE DSP USING XILINX FPGAS

Xilinx has been aggressively targeting the DSP market recently
now that its parts are capable of executing a 1024-point, complex
FFT on 16-bit real and imaginary data in less than one
microsecond. Also, a Xilinx part can implement a 256-tap
finite impulse response filter for 16-bit data at 180
megasamples per second. These and other high-performance DSP
solutions are discussed in a series of video-on-demand modules
that can also be accessed from their web site at: Xilinx DSP

Furthermore, high-level entry of digital signal processing
applications can now be accomplished for Xilinx FPGAs using a new
tool called System Generator which works in conjunction with the
popular MATLAB/Simulink software. As a plug-in for the Simulink
modeling software, this tool provides a bit-accurate model of
FPGA circuits and automatically generates synthesizable VHDL code
and a corresponding testbench for implementation in Xilinx Virtex
and Spartan-II FPGAs. A free trial version can be downloaded
from the website listed above.
