Shrimp Paste
Shrimp paste is absolutely revolting. It can be found in small plastic
cups (like the tamarind concentrate) in oriental markets. The stuff
we bought had a lame, thin layer of wax over it. It smells like nothing
you would want to eat, but don't worry, , the food comes out fine. Don't eat it
raw in an ice cream cone. Again, we refrigerated it (in an airtight bag,
so the smell doesn't infest the fridge), but I don't know if you're
supposed to. It couldn't smell any worse...
