FYS 129 - The Art and Science of Sudoku
Fall Semester (Second Session) 2010, Section 055

Description: Today's popular puzzle game requires no mathematics, not even arithmetic, to solve. However, it still presents a variety of interesting challenges to mathematicians and computer scientists. In this seminar, we discuss the origin of the game from Latin squares, strategies for solving Sudoku puzzles by humans and computers, the complexity of creating Sudoku puzzles, and recent variations of the puzzle (e.g., using dominoes).
