Dear Zonker,
It was good to hear from you, although you seemed somewhat down and taking a lot of things into consideration it is easy to understand the “blahs.” Really there is a little you can do to things that happen to you; only how you react to them. As a cartoon in the Wall Street Journal said, “It’s lonely at the bottom too.” Reorganization problems will exist at the MCCo. when the only positive action will be moving people downstairs.
No word from H. (Harold) Crow, so really have no idea what is going to happen if anything. Had the house appraised by the City National Bank and their estimate was close enough to our asking price that we aren’t going to change the asking price. Since they were lower, we can’t feel out of line to come down if someone offers us less. Charlie Crow and his wife were out Tuesday night.
I think the real estate really shows the problem of inflation. A few years of euphoria when buy, sell, buy again and making money all the time. The game stops and then the buyers and sellers are frozen at that level where they quit, making renewal a very “chancy” thing to do. Current joke is about the new International Farm Tractor with a seat or steering wheel: “For the farmer who has lost his ass and don’t know which way to turn.”
A large windstorm Tuesday didn’t help the farmers or canners as it knocked down crops from Gibson City to Williamsport. I guess the sweet corn is a disaster. Our “Gods Little Acre” and Grandpa’s sweet corn is in the can. We had 2 1/4 (inch) rain in less than two hours but no damage here.
Kay has been here since Sunday and we have enjoyed having her. She did Neil’s Corporation tax (Fed & State) so that it is a real help. For her he made her a bracelet. Jean and Kay were over there yesterday.
Grandpa is home now, but not very mobile. Mother was able to get him a new LPN starting this morning and working until Mary gets off in October (she works at Stokely). I went down last night and helped him up to bed, which was hard on me, as I was suffering from “Hedge Trimmers Elbow” and “tater diggers back.” I didn’t tell mother I was all “banged up.”
Larry Lujack is responsible for these song just before Animal Stories. I wish I had a job to shove also something like I Wish I Had A Job to Shove and also something like “you threw up all over me, now I’m going to throw up all over you.”
