Demonstration of StarLogo Simulation of Streaming
Run SlimeStream.slogo
Program exaggerates slime mold movement to illustrate streaming aggregation
Autonomous cell in center releases cAMP at regular intervals (like a pacemaker cell)
Note at beginning synchronized excitation and relativlye concentric waves
Soon begins to start gathering into streams
Completely homogeneous movement toward center is not a stable condition
Random perturbations cause small heterogeneities to appear
They have no long-distance vision, so they will turn toward nearby relaying cells
Cells tend to stick together with stickiness that depends on cell density
Cell clumping is autocatalytic or a positive feedback process
