Philip J. Mucci received his Bachelors Degree in Computer Science from The Johns Hopkins University in 1993 and his Masters Degree from the University of Tennessee in 1998 under Dr. Jack Dongarra. For his thesis, he developed a high performance, portable, active-messaging communication for PVM, the precursor to MPI. Under funding from the NSF, DARPA, D.o.D and D.o.E, he worked on application optimization, parallel application frameworks, benchmarking, and the development of performance tools. He is the inventor of PAPI, the Performance Application Programming Interface, now in widespread use in HPC compute centers around the world. From 2002 to 2008, he served as a software architect, performance guru and business developer at SiCortex, makers of the worlds most energy efficient supercomputers. In 2009, he founded the successful HPC consulting company Samara Technology Group, where he served as Director of Business Development. In 2012, founded Minimal Metrics, a technology and strategy provider for highly efficient systems. He also holds a Research Consultant position with the Innovative Computing Laboratory at the University of Tennessee and serves as the CFO and advisor to an overseas development firm, SynTech Nepal Pvt. Ltd.
