Bill Penalizes Innocent Unauthorized access
- The Federal Computer Systems Protection act was for illegal access to computer systems , this bill addresses noncriminal but unauthorized access.
- Example used “Some persons have said the trespass and browsing control section of the computer bill is too broad, that it would make it a federal offense for harmless activities at the computer console, such as making a snoopy calendar or filing away and tabulating bowling leagues scores and standings, but the same type of browsing which creates a snoopy calendar could facilitate a major fraud or a serious act of intentional destruction.”
- Just wanted to protect Data processing facilities and programs against fraud, intentional destruction, and unauthorized access.

- The cause was an error in a computer formula that has been used for seven years to design cooling systems in nuclear reactors.
- Just interesting how far computers have gotten to be an integral part of society and the speed of the developments.
Monitor Charting Manic-Depressives
- The heart of the device is a piezoelectric accelerometer, which measures acceleration caused by patient movement.
- References to Dick Tracy’s Two way wrist TV
- The movement is recorded on to a pair of intel 5101 CMOS random access memory (RAM) chips. The chips stored 256 words of information, with one 8 bit word for each time period counted out by a crystal oscillator.
- Used to measure how much movement took place. Like a pedometer, but can tell when the person moved.
The Cow Index
- Another use of computers helping society.
- Goal is to create a Superbulls that can sire supercows that give more milk.
- Cow index is rating program that was run on an IBM 370/168 and traces the ancestry of the cows.
- Farmers would consult the cow index when making purchases of other cows.
