Grade Distribution

  • Paper Presentation: 15%
  • Homework/Programming Assignments (6-8 in Total): 40%
  • Midterm Exam: 15%
  • Final Team Project: 30%
  • Bonus Points (Unused Grace Period, TNVoice participation, etc.): 1%
  • Bonus Points (Attend at least 5 talks from the TRUST-AI Seminar Series and upload proof, e.g., photos, to Canvas): 2%

Assignment Submission

  • All assignments turned in for credit must be each student’s own work. Students may discuss the assignments with others but must write their own programs and problem solutions (Student Conduct & Community Standards).
  • Code plagiarism detection tools will be used to check coding submissions.
  • Assignments are due 11:59pm on the due date and should be submitted electronically through Canvas. Please name your report using the following style Assg#_FirstName.pdf and your source code in a tar/zip file using Assg#_FirstName.tar/zip.
  • Late policy: Each student is given a single 48-hour grace period, which applies to all assignments collectively. Any assignment submitted later beyond the grace period will have a penalty of 20% deduction per late day. No assignment should be submitted more than 3 days after the due date. Email me earlier if you have a reasonable excuse. The unused grace period will be counted toward bonus added to the final average.

Midterm Exam

  • No make-up exam will be given. If a student misses the exam and has a reasonable excuse, the exam will be dropped and the assignments and final project will count more.

Grading

  • All grades may be appealed within one week of their return.
  • All appeals, no matter how apparently obvious, must be in writing (via emails) and must be based on a logical argument.

469 vs. 569

  • Assignments and the midterm exam may have additional questions for 569 students.
  • 569 students are expected to “produce more” in the final projects than 469 students.

Letter Grades

  • The letter grades are assigned on the course final averages (using the grade distribution above).
  • Only half points are round up: so, 66.5 is rounded to 67, but 66.49 is not.
  • There may be a curve, but no guarantee!
