Lemon Grass
Lemon grass can be found in the refrigerated section in
oriental markets. It looks like a big
scallion, but much more sturdy and fibrous. And it smells like lemon.
There's a dried form which you can get at health food stores, but
it's a pain to work with and not as good. You can grow it yourself
during the summer: Cut off the bottom two inches of a stalk from the
store, and soak the bottom inch of that in water for a couple of
weeks. Eventually, a root or two will appear. Plant. It doesn't
tolerate freezes.
