Taco Beef
From Mary Fernandez, Heather, and Jim
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 medium onion, minced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon ground cumin
- 1 tablespoon ground allspice
- 1 tablespoon chili powder
- 1/2 - 1 cup water
- Salt to taste
Directions
Brown the beef in an iron skillet. When brown, drain off the grease.
Put some in another skillet, and use it to fry the onions and garlic
-- fry them until soft. While the onions and garlic are frying, add
the cumin, allspice and chili powder to the meat, and keep the burner
hot. Let some of the meat sear and burn a bit. When you can't stand
this any longer, add the onions and garlic, salt and water. Let it
simmer as long as you like -- more than 20 minutes. There should be
enough water so that the meat is moist, but not so much that it is
swimming. If you need to simmer longer, keep adding water to keep
the meat moist.
Serves 4.
Comments
You certainly don't need to be this anal about
it, but I think this method gets the best results.
