Biographical blurb
Welcome to my website! I am a senior at the University of Tennessee and have
been a member of Dr. Langston's lab group since May 2023. I was born and
raised in Kingsport, TN and always enjoyed a fresh peanut butter milkshake
from Pals #1. My family includes a cool sister (freshman at UTK), two awesome
parents, and two good dogs (Rufus and Wiley) at home. My interests outside
of school include racquetball, basketball, reading (favorite author as of
now is Dostoevsky), and listening to music. Some of my interests pertaining
to school include systems programming, a little discrete math / graph theory, and
machine learning.

This summer, I will have the amazing opportunity to intern within one of the fitness
software engineering teams at Garmin in Olathe, KS! The team I will intern for is focused
on developing high level software for the venu and vivoactive lines of watches. I know
both the sheer learning and intern experiences will make the summer beyond enjoyable, but
Garmin also provides an excellent campus with many engaging activies, which will only make
the summer better :-) Getting to study in the Min H. Kao Building at UTK has been a true
privilege thanks to Dr. Kao's gracious contributions, and I look forward to doing all I can
to contribute to Garmin's high standards of quality and culture.

Lab and Research Projects

  • R package for Langston Lab's Graph Analysis and Thresholding Techniques
    • Leverages the Rcpp package to convert the lab's existing thresholding C code into an R package
    • Translated helper post-thresholding analysis file functions from Python to R
    • Working alongside Gabriel Johnson to create a build script and incorporate into GrAPPA as a working online tool
    • The progress of the thresholding package can be tracked here
  • Chicken Gene Methylation Analysis
    • Chickens (five in each group) given a diet of either soybean oil or fishoil
    • Ran pairwise correlations on methylated DNA regions
    • GO enrichment analysis on sites of interest
