TITLE: Change of Plans for LSI Logic Structured ASICs

LSI Logic has announced that it will cease development of
its RapidChip ASIC platform technology as part of a major
restructuring of the company. The company has decided to focus
on the storage and comsumer markets. RapidChip customer designs
currently in production or under development will continue and
are not affected by this action. The company's DSP unit, called
ZSP, is expected to be sold. Last year, LSI Logic also said it
would sell its 8-in. wafer manufacturing plant in
Gresham, Oregon, as it continues to transition to a fabless
manufacturing strategy.

Structured ASIC platforms are pre-fabricated ICs except for a few
customizable layers. At least ten other vendors are continuing to
offer structured ASICs.
